plastic free salad leaves

For a plastic free and cheaper alternative to buying bags of mixed salad leaves, I’m going to grow some cut and come again mixed leaves.

I have re used an old wooden crate that had Clementines in, and made some drainage holes in the bottom.

Last weekend I filled it with some sieved garden soil and watered it, then I sprinkled the seed over thinly and covered with about 1/2 cm more soil. I covered the tray with a lid and put it in my little outside green house.

I was delighted to find today that they had already germinated, despite the -2 degrees we had on Wednesday morning.

I have watered the tray and put it the in the sun, but will return it to the green house at night until all risk of frost is passed.
