say cheese

Its been a challenge to buy cheese avoiding plastic wrap.

For hygiene and freshness the cheese behind the deli counter is wrapped in plastic, and the helpful and apologetic assistant has no choice but to use a piece of throw away plastic to handle and weigh the cheese before it goes into my reusable tub.

The answer to this has been quietly staring me in the face all this time, whenever I have walked through the chilled aisle.

Boursin!

This soft cheese is wrapped in nothing more than foil and a cardboard box. It has a good shelf life in the fridge, and when opened can keep for up to 5 days.

I am now using it in place of cheddar as a topping for anything that requires cheese. It’s deliciously creamy stirred through hot pasta, or mashed potato, and last night I crumbled some over my omelette and let it melt a little before serving up. Delish!

I don’t know why I haven’t discovered this delicious and versatile cheese sooner!
