quick and easy gravy

When time is short and I’m home late, I don’t want to spend too long making dinner so I tend to reach for the time savers in my cupboard.

Gravy granules used to be one of them. Not any more because I cannot find gravy granules that don’t have a plastic lid.

You may think that making your own gravy from scratch will take too long, but that is far from true.

Here is how I make instant gravy, it tastes pretty good too!

To make half a pint using plastic free ingredients:

– One Oxo stock cube (They still come in boxes, and wrapped in foil)

– 2 teaspoons of gluten free flour, or cornflour in a paper packet

– 2 teaspoon of oil, I use rape seed oil

– Half pint of water, I like to use the water I just used to steam my vegetables. Its ok if its still warm but make sure it is not boiling as that will cause the flour to go lumpy

Method:

Crumble the stock cube in a pan add the flour, and the oil, then pour in the water and stir.

Put the pan on a low heat and gently stir until it thickens. It won’t take long.

Serve!

It’s important when making speedy gravy to use gluten free flour or corn flour because regular flour needs more attention paid to it in the pan to stop it going lumpy.

At weekends when I have more time and I happen to be making a roast, I’ll dissolve the burnt on juices in the bottom of the roasting tin with some of the water used to steam the veg and add that to the pan. Delish!
