Ever find that the seed left at the bottom of your bird feeders turns to mush if you don\’t get the chance to regularly empty it out?

I have found that crumbling saved egg shells in the bottom of the feeder just below the level of the first opening, before adding fresh seed, helps to prevent this, and makes emptying out much easier.
