This morning I checked on my trough of kale, planted as tiny plugs in the Autumn. They are now ready for picking.

If you take a few leaves from the bottom of the stalk of each plant, that makes a good handful, and it allows the plants to keep on growing, making more leaves for picking through the season.
A couple of mine have stared to grow flower heads.

These need to be snapped off where my finger is pointing, as you don’t want the plant to put energy into growing flowers at the expense of growing leaves. But don’t throw them away! They taste delicious eaten raw on top of anything.
