Recently I have been trialling white vinegar as a toilet cleaner. The reason being that the only plastic free ready made toilet cleaner I could find was pricey and I wanted a cheaper alternative. Splosh sell a toilet cleaner concentrate that when diluted works out at £3 per litre.
I have been buying Sarsons white vinegar in 568ml glass bottles (sadly the stopper is plastic). Cost £1.10, or £1.94 per litre.
I dilute this with the same quantity of water and refill my toilet duck bottles as required. Equivalent to 97 pence per litre.

So far I have been satisfied with the results. My toilet, and my toilet brush have remained clean.
There are 2 disadvantages, but I think I can live with them. The first is that the vinegar solution is of course watery, so does not have the thick consistency of regular toilet cleaner when you use it . The second is that it smells of vinegar, but this does pass after a short while, and can easily be masked with a squirt of air freshener.
Talking of vinegar – I have used my shampoo bar and my condition bar from Cosy Cottage and have briefly rinsed with very diluted cider vinegar (from a glass bottle with a metal lid, decanted and diluted into previous single-use plastic bottles) (briefly and diluted being key aspects otherwise you’ve just had a shower and then you smell of vinegar!) – and my hair is clean and shiny with no added thingies and no use of plastic. Hurrah! Well done to Julietta for introducing us to all this stuff, we support her 100% for all her efforts. Every little bit that everyone does adds up and counts. Sainsburys are also progressing with their unpackaged fruit and veg, with paper bags for mushrooms and little net bags for other things – just thought I’d mention that.
