raddish pods

Raddish are very quick and easy to grow in the garden from seed, but not everyone likes the taste.

Raddishes are not just about the bulb though. If you forget about them, they soon throw up a flower spike with a spray of small white flowers.

Bees visit them, then the flower drops off leaving behind a pod.

When these develop you can pick them as a treat to eat.

The pods are sweet and crunchy, reminiscent of a sugar snap pea. You can eat them whole and raw, as shown here thrown into a salad.
