putting pen to paper

Working in an office, how many disposable plastic pens I go through is only to be guessed at, but it’s A LOT.

At home I do have a selection of very nice quality pens that are re-usable. Like this marvellous refillable fountain pen, a gift from my Dad in 1993 (costing £164.59, I still have the receipt).

But I don’t want to take these to the office. Countless times I get distracted and walk away without my pen, never to be seen again. So back I go to the stock cupboard to seek out yet another plastic disposable pen, adding to the mountain of others consigned to the bin over the years.

So I tried to find a compostable alternative. I found none in the shops so went online. I ended up back on Amazon, and this is what I found. A pack of 12 cardboard pens costing £3.95 including postage.

These pens are not completely plastic free. The ink cartridge is plastic AS I expected, and as you can see they arrived in a plastic wrapper. Another issue is they are made in China which was not obvious when I ordered them, and they took over 3 weeks to arrive, so that’s not ideal. But the casing and lid are cardboard, reducing plastic going to waste.

You can even write your name on them.

Not to be out done, Barry has made a posh label for his.

If anyone finds out whether something similar is made in the UK, I would be pleased to know.
